Definitions for key terms used in Tillered Cloud documentation
TEN (Tillered Entry Node)
A node deployed on your local network where traffic originates. The entry node receives traffic from your firewall via policy-based routing and forwards it through the Tillered overlay network to an exit node. See Node Types.
CEN (Cloud Exit Node)
A node deployed in a cloud region (AWS, Azure, Equinix Metal) where traffic exits to the internet or remote services. Each CEN creates a virtual interface on connected entry nodes. See Node Types.
FTN (Full Tillered Node)
A node that functions as both entry and exit, providing bidirectional networking between sites. See Node Types.
Hub
The Tillered Hub is the web-based management interface for Tillered Cloud. It handles network creation, node registration, provisioning, monitoring, and account administration.
Network
A logical grouping of Tillered nodes. Each network creates an isolated overlay that connects its member nodes. Networks are managed through the Hub.
Transparent mode
A per-link setting that preserves source IP addresses across the Tillered tunnel. Most effective with FTN nodes for full bidirectional IP preservation, but can also be used on one-way links when the remote side needs the original source address. Useful for IP-based access control, accurate logging, and compliance requirements. See Transparent Mode.
Virtual IP (VIP)
A stable IP address assigned to a service behind a Tillered node. VIPs remain consistent even if the underlying node is replaced, providing continuity for dependent services.
Policy-based routing
A firewall configuration technique that directs traffic based on criteria other than the destination address (such as source address, protocol, or port). Used to route specific traffic through a Tillered entry node instead of the default gateway.
